AI writing and the assistant
Use AI in Postline to write and improve posts, plan and schedule with the assistant, and generate images. Learn how AI credits work.
What you need
AI features are included in every paid plan. Each plan comes with monthly AI credits. A workspace without a plan can't use AI.
On a self-hosted server, AI writing and the assistant need ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, and image generation needs OPENAI_API_KEY. Without billing keys, credits are unlimited.
Writing help
In the composer, choose ✦ Write with AI. Pick what AI should do:

Choose a tone: friendly and clear, professional, playful, bold and direct, or informative. Then choose Generate.
The result replaces the text in the current tab, so you can write different versions for different channels. Choose Undo AI to go back.
AI writes for the network of the tab you're on and stays under its character limit. It's told not to invent facts, numbers, quotes, prices or links you didn't give it. Always read the result before you post.
The assistant
Choose Ask the assistant in the sidebar. You can ask it things like:
- "What is scheduled for next week?"
- "Draft three posts announcing our spring sale for every channel"
- "Which posts did best in the last 30 days?"
- "Move my drafts to the next free posting slots"
The assistant can list channels, read, create, edit and delete posts, find free posting times, import media from a URL, create preview links and read analytics. It works with your role, so it can't do anything you can't.
New posts are saved as drafts unless you ask the assistant to schedule or publish them. It reads times in the workspace time zone.
- @ Channels picks the channels the request is about, so the assistant doesn't have to guess.
- 📎 Attach adds images or video from your media library. The assistant can use them in the posts it writes.
- Under each answer, Copy copies it, Try again asks for a new answer to your last message, and 👍 / 👎 rate it.
- Chats are saved. Choose Chats to open or delete an earlier one, and New chat to start over. Only you can see your chats.
Image generation
If the server has image generation set up, the composer shows ✦ Generate image. Describe the image, and Postline adds the result to your media library and to the post. Images can be square (1024×1024), portrait (1024×1536) or landscape (1536×1024).
AI credits
Each plan includes a number of AI credits per month.

- Credits reset on the 1st of each month.
- If a request fails, its credits are given back.
- See how many you've used in Settings → Billing under AI credits this month.
- When you run out, AI requests stop until the next month, or you can upgrade.
There are also short rate limits: about 20 writing requests, 10 assistant messages and 6 images per minute.
