Connect DEV (dev.to) to Postline with an API key to schedule articles with a cover image, tags and series, and see views and reactions.
What you can post
- Long-form articles up to 100,000 characters, in Markdown.
- Up to 10 images. The first image becomes the cover. Other images are added below the text. Video isn't supported.
- No threads or comments.
- Per-post settings:
- Title: required, up to 250 characters.
- Tags: up to 4. Postline makes them lowercase and removes characters other than letters and numbers.
- Publish now (otherwise saved as draft): on by default.
- Series.
- Original URL (canonical): if the article was published elsewhere first.
Connect your account
- Create an API key at dev.to/settings/extensions.
- In Postline, click + Add next to Channels in the sidebar. Only workspace owners and admins can add channels.
- Choose DEV and paste the API key.
- Click Add channel.
For self-hosters
No server setup is needed. People connect with their own API key.
Images are linked from their Postline URL, so APP_URL/uploads/... (or your S3 public URL) must be reachable from the internet.
Analytics and plugs
Postline collects page views, reactions (shown as likes) and comments per article. It does not track follower counts.
Plugs (auto-repost and follow-up) aren't available for DEV.
Known issues
- Every article needs a title.
- Only the first 4 tags are used.
