Known issues

Known limits and quirks for each network Postline publishes to, plus how retries, token refresh and reconnecting work.

This page collects the known issues for every network in one place. Each network has its own page with the details, for example X or Instagram. For fixes, see Troubleshooting.

General

  • Retries. When a network has a temporary problem (it can't be reached, it rate-limits you, it returns a server error, or media processing takes too long), Postline tries again. It tries up to 3 times in total, waiting about 1 minute and then 2 minutes. Other errors fail right away.
  • Threads and comments. If a thread stops halfway, a retry continues where it stopped. Parts that already went out aren't posted again.
  • Token refresh. Before publishing, Postline refreshes a channel's access token if it expires within 5 minutes. If the refresh fails, the post fails with "The connection to {channel} expired. Reconnect the channel." and the channel is marked as needing a reconnect.
  • Revoked access. If a network rejects the channel's sign-in, the channel is marked "Reconnect needed". Owners and admins get a notification in the app and by email. Posts to that channel can't go out until you reconnect it.
  • Failure notices. When a post fails, the person who created it and the workspace's owners and admins get a notification, in the app and by email.
  • Public media. Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok photo posts, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Nostr, Farcaster, Slack and the blog networks fetch or link media from its public URL. On a self-hosted server, APP_URL/uploads/... (or your S3 public URL) must be reachable from the internet.
  • Analytics. Postline refreshes engagement numbers for posts published in the last 30 days. Paused channels and channels that need reconnecting are skipped.
  • Plugs. Auto-repost and follow-up are included in paid plans. Each plug runs once per post, when the post reaches the number of likes you set (50 by default). Only posts from the last 7 days are checked.
  • Removing a channel. The channel is removed from posts that haven't gone out yet. Posts left with no channels are deleted.
  • Self-hosters: encryption key. Changing ENCRYPTION_KEY disconnects every channel.
