What you can post

  • Text up to 2,200 characters. For a video, the text is the video's caption. For a photo post, it's the description.
  • Every post needs media: either one video, or a set of photos (up to 35). Photos must be JPG or WebP.
  • No threads or comments.
  • Per-post settings:
    • How to post: Publish directly, or Send to my TikTok inbox to finish in the app. The default is Publish directly.
    • Who can view: required when publishing directly. The choices come from your TikTok account (Everyone, Friends, Followers, Only me).
    • Title (photo posts): up to 90 characters. If empty, Postline uses the first line of the text.
    • Allow comments, Allow Duet, Allow Stitch: on by default, for direct posts.
    • Add recommended music (photo posts): on by default.
    • Promotes my own brand: shows a "Promotional content" label.
    • Paid partnership (branded content): shows a "Paid partnership" label.
    • Made with AI.

Connect your account

  1. In the sidebar, click + Add next to Channels. Only workspace owners and admins can add channels.
  2. Choose TikTok.
  3. Click Continue to TikTok, sign in and allow access.

For self-hosters

  1. Create a TikTok developer app with Login Kit and the Content Posting API.
  2. Register this redirect URL: {APP_URL}/api/channels/oauth/tiktok/callback
  3. Set TIKTOK_CLIENT_KEY and TIKTOK_CLIENT_SECRET.
  4. Submit the app for TikTok's review. Until it passes, posts can only be private.

TikTok downloads photos from their public URL, so APP_URL/uploads/... (or your S3 public URL) must be reachable from the internet.

Analytics and plugs

Postline collects likes, comments, shares and views per post, and tracks your follower count. Stats are only collected for posts that TikTok returned a public post ID for.

Plugs (auto-repost and follow-up) aren't available for TikTok.

Known issues

  • Until the server's TikTok app passes review, posts can only be private.
  • TikTok posts are either one video or a set of photos, not both.
  • Photo posts accept JPG or WebP images only.
  • Branded content can't be private. Postline shows "Branded content on TikTok cannot be private." if you pick Only me.
  • When you publish directly, you must choose who can view the post.
  • With Send to my TikTok inbox, you finish the post in the TikTok app.
  • If TikTok can't publish the post, it fails with "TikTok could not publish the post" and TikTok's reason.
  • Postline refreshes the access token automatically. If TikTok rejects the refresh, you see "TikTok access expired" and need to reconnect.
