What you can post

  • Text up to 500 characters per post.
  • Up to 4 images or videos.
  • Threads: extra parts are published as replies, each one replying to the part before it. When the first post is Public, replies are posted as Quiet public.
  • Per-post settings:
    • Visibility: Public, Quiet public or Followers only. The default is Public.
    • Content warning: optional.
    • Mark media as sensitive.

Connect your account

  1. In the sidebar, click + Add next to Channels. Only workspace owners and admins can add channels.
  2. Choose Mastodon.
  3. Enter Your server, for example mastodon.social.
  4. Click Continue to Mastodon, sign in on your server and allow access.

For self-hosters

No server keys are needed. Postline registers itself on each Mastodon server the first time someone connects from it, using the redirect URL {APP_URL}/api/channels/oauth/mastodon/callback.

Analytics and plugs

Postline collects favorites (shown as likes), replies (shown as comments) and boosts (shown as shares) per post. It also tracks your follower count.

Plugs:

  • Auto-repost: not supported.
  • Follow-up: supported. Postline replies with a follow-up once the post reaches the number of likes you set.

Known issues

  • Postline uses a 500-character limit for every Mastodon server.
  • If your server is still processing media, Postline retries the post: "Mastodon is still processing the media. Try again shortly."
