What you can post

  • Text up to 280 characters per post.
  • Up to 4 images, or 1 video. A video can't be combined with images.
  • Threads: extra parts are published as replies, each one replying to the part before it. Each part can be up to 280 characters.
  • Per-post setting: Who can reply (Everyone, Accounts you follow, or Only accounts you mention). The default is Everyone.

Connect your account

  1. In the sidebar, click + Add next to Channels. Only workspace owners and admins can add channels.
  2. Choose X.
  3. Click Continue to X.
  4. Sign in on X and allow access. You come back to Postline, and the account appears under Channels.

For self-hosters

  1. Create an X developer app with OAuth 2.0 and read and write permissions.
  2. Register this redirect URL: {APP_URL}/api/channels/oauth/x/callback
  3. Set X_CLIENT_ID and X_CLIENT_SECRET.

Posting needs a paid X API tier. Until X approves your app, only the app's own test users can connect it.

Analytics and plugs

Postline collects, per post: likes, replies (shown as comments), reposts plus quotes (shown as shares), impressions and bookmarks (shown as saves). It also tracks your follower count.

Plugs:

  • Auto-repost: supported. Postline reposts your post once it reaches the number of likes you set.
  • Follow-up: supported. Postline replies to your post with a follow-up once it reaches the number of likes you set.

Known issues

  • Posting needs a paid X API tier on the server's X app.
  • X allows one video per post, without other images. Postline shows "X allows one video per post, without other images." if you add more.
  • If X can't process a video, the post fails with "X could not process the video".
  • Postline refreshes the X access token automatically. If the refresh fails, you need to reconnect the channel.
